I am so delighted that one of my market pals has taken a leap to make more "public" the bartering we do amongst ourselves at the market. Making the circle bigger (or more formal) if you will.
This was my view when I waited at his gate to collect my loot from his vegetable garden. Paid for in marmalade and paté.
The chillies were destined for jam and an experiment. The daikon, for pickling. Another day.
But, today:
I played about and made a batch of lemon-chilli marmalade.
Two of my best sellers are marmalade and chilli jam. I had a notion a couple of days ago and canvassed my peeps. The notion formed into an idea and I took it to the next level today.
I am happy with what it looks like. The jury is still out as we have to do the taste test. Testers are lined up and I'll report back.
Some numbers
Before I close, and for the record, I am now selling around 18 jars of marmalade each month. Just from our ince a week, two hour market. It's exciting. It's also why I have made nearly 200 jars of marmalade in the last two months. In an attempt to stockpile while citrus is still available in season and inexpensive.
Lastly -
If you are wondering about the ancient, it's because bartering is how folk traded before money was invented. I am banking my trades with another pal for some of her ceramics. More of that when my savings accrue and she gets round to making them.
Until next time, be well
