Yesterday was mad. C returned to work so we had a long heart to heart. J's employer, for whom he had worked for 15 years, had (has) made no provision for pensions. When the owner, and former villager, wasn't at the funeral on Saturday, this is what I feared.
Then, I have mentioned, in passing, that I have been helping with a fundraising campaign so that Andrew could have surgery the state system refused to do.
Summary: the family and community raises ZAR 45k to cover the quoted costs of surgery and hospitalization. The 6kg+ tumour is gone, but the surgery was more complicated and the costs have tripled. The details are here, but in a nutshell:
The family paid everything they could. When the hospital learned that they couldn't pay the now huge balance immediately, now, they threw Andrew out discharged him. On the spot. He should only have been discharged 5 days after the operation. Not within 2.
I am livid.
The family haven't said they will not pay. They will. They want a payment plan.
No.
This is being handed over to our attorneys.
No discussion.
...it's a financial issue...
My opinion: it's immoral and inhumane. I suspect it may be illegal so I am doing what I can to raise a cavalry.
In the meantime, the family plans to raise what they need - as they did before. With among others, C's steely resolve, they will.
Back to the more mundane
Monday's meatfree meal was a bit of a hodge podge. A delicious one: my market pal, Trish's falafel that I had stashed in the deep freeze as a standby, came in handy. Poor shopping planning on my part means we are short of greens but I was saved by Cecil's peppers.
All that, with some plain hummus, fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice, and wrapped in a naan, made for a scrumptious supper. Even if I say so, myself.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the roasted butternut with a dollop of Trish's garlicky tzatziki!
PS If anyone feels so inclined, I will direct any donations to Andrew. They can be sent to my wallet with the memo for Andrew.
Until next time, be well

I am participating in @traciyork's twice-yearly Hive Blog Posting Month.

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:
- re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
- and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
- From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.
- Join Hive using this link and then join us in the Silver Bloggers' community by clicking on the logo.

- lastly, graphics are created using partly my own photographs and Canva.
