I was at my niece's bedroom on her 12th birthday almost 2 weeks ago. It's been a long while since my last visit up there and it was good to see it again. She was crying over their pet hamster which unfortunately reached its lifespan and perished two days after. She was really sad but I was relieved she accepted it and moving on gracefully.
While there and trying to make her understand that pets have a lifespan too, I noticed some drawings on her wall so I asked whose artwork they were because first, I was really curious and second, to divert her attention. She replied it was hers. I have never seen her draw when she was younger so I was chuffed.
There was another but it was covered and tucked under some of her sashes and then we were called to dinner so I didn't have the chance to photograph it. It was good to see her expressing herself through doodles. Her younger sister Ahjay was proud that she narrated there was more but they were left at their locker at school.
It's a joy to see them grow up well even without a mother at their house. Somehow, it made me happy and proud thinking their father must be doing something right, being both a mom and a dad.
Anyway, I was in the mood to write and here's just a few verses (a brief story) about her. She was 20 months old on the photo below when she grabbed a puppy and ran towards us. It was amusing to see, lol! Pardon this blurry pic.
who used to run after pups,
she cries when her mama's out
and won't stop until she comes back.
A young lady yet to be an adult
One who plays like a girl aged five
but has wisdom more like her dad.
that her hamster won't eat nor drink
her tears rolled on her cheeks nonstop
wouldn't wanna lose one she loves.
the coming year she'll be a teenager
"Guide her please," I begged the Heavens
that she may have fun and joyful years ahead.

She has the spirit of a really young girl but sometimes talks like an old soul. Looking at her photos of a long time ago, it's quite hard to imagine that she is now all grown up, and so is her sister. And thus reminded me that I'm not getting any younger. But just like sis Eli mentioned on her post a day ago and I quote:
"growing old does not mean that we have to grow old in mind. One thing is our body, and another, as far as possible, our spirit and mind."
This I will also try to remember and live through.
Anyway, that's just it for today. Sunday here and it's a fabulous one. Here to wish you a happy weekend everyone!
