What skills would I like to learn or improve this year?
Eventually, being able to do aqua-aerobics without being thrown off my pool noodle and bobbing up and down in the water. Got the swimwear, but need to get my own pool noodle, which I'll tell you about a little later!
My ribs and back were still sore when it was time for lesson number two a week later, but better three days after the second lesson. Apparently, one lady disappeared under the water at one of the lessons, and everyone thought she was playing the fool, till the coach realized she actually was in trouble. And that was in the shallow end!

So I told you when I started going for aqua-aerobics two weeks ago. The pool is indoors and heated to the perfect temperature, but following lengthy bronchitis that caused partial lung collapse and made my airways dry and extra sensitive, I realized I need to go for low-impact aqua exercise classes until I'm a little fitter. These classes are run by a retired physiotherapist.
There are numerous activities offered at no extra cost where I now live. Many of the coaches are residents who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise with others.
About that pool noodle. The coach/ teacher brings enough for us all to use. The class was extra big last week, so the teacher divided us into groups, but that resulted in total chaos! I had grabbed a yellow noodle, and when it was time for our group to do the exercises with the noodles, my younger friend, who's been guiding me as a newbie, pointed to the yellow noodle closest to us, and I grabbed it. Boy oh boy, I was in trouble! It belonged to one of the older gals who came paddling towards me with her hands stretched out, concern on her face, told me it's hers, and showed me her initials on the end, as proof of ownership! Gosh, it was like I was going to swim away with it or run and hide it in my apartment.

But, I do want to master these exercises and be pain-free afterwards, as it really is fun, and it also is such a nice group of ladies, except for the yellow pool noodle owner, who kept a watchful eye on me and the pool noodle for the rest of that class ;) At least it gave my friend and I something to chuckle about afterwards!
Once I have the hang of aqua, I would like to either join a yoga or pilates class, both will be very beneficial. I did yoga many many years ago before I had children. There are classes for both these activities. I do have my own mat so doubt there's anything I can do to upset another old gal:) I have to tread carefully from now on or else I'll have the village police spying on me!
I hope to go for a refresher course on playing the piano and will have to start making enquiries to find a private teacher. I played when I was young, but stopped when my sons were born. I gave away my ancient piano when I sold my house, so will need to get a keyboard/ digital piano.

The Silver Bloggers started a weekly writing prompt last year, helping us find inspiration not only for the times we have writer's block, but also to help us store memories forever here on Hive. This has been my response for Prompt #29 - Learning and skills you would like to learn or improve this year.
Life often takes us away from our dreams and unless it's a passion, we let it be. I have at least made a start with the aqua, although the yellow pool noodle got me into trouble with one disapproving lady;) Reminded me of school days when called into the headmaster's office, but that's not going to stop me from fullfilling my dreams of learning and refreshing these skills.
