Mother Earth experiences menstruation, resting and rejuvenating her power, symbolizing fertility.
Raja Sankranti is a very unique three day long festival in my place, to celebrate womanhood and fertility, which starts today. It is believed that Mother Earth experiences menstruation during these days so all kind of agricultural or ground work are prohibited during this time, giving her rest to rejuvenate her power. The word Raja comes from the Sanskrit word Rajas meaning menstruation and it is a sign of fertility, which needs symbolic period of rest, like menstruating woman.
During this festival, unmarried girls are given full liberty to take rest and enjoy these three days by wearing new dress, eating delicious food and cakes, spending cheerful hours playing swings. A very popular delicious cake named as Podo Pitha is prepared in this festival, which is again an authentic cuisine of my place. Even in some houses, married woman take break from their household work and men take over , but unfortunately, I don't know any cooking, so the lady has to run the show, but we provide all kind of helping hands.
Every year, a food festival happens in our society premises and the boy puts up his entrepreneur skills, but unfortunately so far there is no news this year. However, we did enjoy this year in advance last week in another special function, hosted by Chandi Bhandar - the silver store from where we often purchase. I have published couple of blogs here on them and my google review (which also included our blogs) of their store became very popular, so they give us some special treat, whenever we visit the store.
They host a special function for Raja celebration, at a premium hotel every year inviting few of their customers and this year they invited us to join them.
Though it was a promotional event, the entry was on invitation only and included limited number of guests because it included delicious foods and no one would deny to go to such events.
On arrival, high tea / coffee and drinks were served to us.
The special Raja Pana (betel) were being served at the entry, with a mouth watering taste - you can see how beautifully it is prepared with so many ingredients.
And what we experienced inside was mind blowing entertainment.
After the inauguration by the owners of the store, a special fashion show was hosted, showcasing some of their best silver jewellery.
To win the heart of all young women, they had arranged stalls to do tattoo, mehndi, make up and nail art and every kid was interested to utilize the opportunity.
To engage the crowd to the fullest they asked questions related to the Raja Festival and presented gifts containing their silver jewellery.
Some delicious hot snacks were also served inside which was a surprise for many, since a fine dinner was waiting outside.
Their brand ambassadors, some very popular faces from our film industry entertained us to the fullest by performing to some best melodious tunes. Here is a short video capture to let you feel those moments.
And their exotic collection of silver jewellery were also on display so that people can buy it there as well.
Prior to this event, they had run a social media campaign, catching attention of millions of people, in which they selected 11 finalists to come on the stage of this event, and endorse their jewellery.
There could not be a better way than this to celebrate womanhood promoting their brand at the same time.
We enjoyed the evening to the fullest and they arranged a grand dinner that included several veg and non-veg menu, to complete the celebration.
Usually promoters do not give full attention to arrange everything perfectly in such promotional events, but this was an exception. They opened several counters to make sure, people can enjoy the delicious dinner to the fullest - there was no shortage of supplies and their staff was very particular and ensuring smooth distribution. I am sure, their owner must be a very nice person with a kind heart, giving instruction for a flawless dinner for so many people.
Some gorgeous girls behind our boy, but he was enjoying the food more - don't worry Papa, I am good.
Before coming back, she did not miss the opportunity at the selfie point to make sure she is borne beautiful - mirror is probably the greatest friend of women ?
I often tell my boy that he can be a great model, if not anything else - do your duty and enjoy the life that you have got and don't worry too much.
Overall, it was a great experience, I never preferred to go to such promotional events but this one has changed my perception.
