My 2026 So Far…
Welcome back to my blog for the first time in 2026!
I know it’s been a while, and time really doesn’t wait for anyone.
Can you believe it’s nearly the end of February already?!
I can’t, largely because time seems to be racing from my perspective and I have managed to cram a lot of stuff into the year so far.
That isn’t a boast, by the way, and I am sure you also have done quite a bit this year already if you were to put everything into list form.
Right now I have a day off, with which I am using to pay rent, renew medication, and stock up on the usual supplies. I am picking up the books I had ordered from the Post Office, buying and assembling a bookshelf and catching up on Wonder Man Season 1. It’s quite a good show so far.
I am also going to get some stakes to support my slowly growing tomato plants and what’s known as a “bone folder” for some of my future projects.
I found it at Spotlight. A bone folder is used to put smooth but sharp creases in paper folds. It’s great for zines, comics and origami.
Then some laundry…
Phew! Exausting, huh?
But there is a reason why I am cramming this all i to a single Saturday.
Since January 26th I have been working at The Garden Of Unearthly Delights, setting up for the Adelaide Fringe Festival on February 13th.
The shifts are from 8am to 5pm, with an hour lunch break which allows me to run into the city if I need to do stuff.
The days have been rather hot, I’ve had to bring a water bottle (drinking maybe 4 or 5 litres of water) and wear sunscreen every day, there’s a lot of heavy lifting, Tetris-style problem solving and there is the constant risk of splinters and nails poking out everywhere. Yes, I wear gloves before I touch anything; they aren’t 100% against every splinter though.
During the Adelaide Fringe Festival I’ll also be handing out flyers to La Ronde, a circus and comedy act that is getting 5 star reviews.
Please consider buying a ticket if you’re in Adelaide, South Australia in late February / early March.
If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been attending my local haunts or posting here regularly, this is why.
I want to improve my life, and that means occasionally making difficult choices.
My Achievements So Far
Completing The Dip by Seth Godin. It’s a short book (100 pages) but it’s a good one. It’s about not wasting your time on things that no longer work for you, but also enduring temporary setbacks in life if you’re on the right path to getting what you want.
The make this article smaller, I will just post the rest in list form.
I’ve enrolled in a cyber security course via TAFE.
Applied for a driver’s licence (just waiting on the medical approval form) for the process to really begin.
Started decluttering my home.
Buying and returning a bookcase (no instructions and missing parts). Buying an ottoman instead.
Buying new glasses.
Enrolling in the Robo Debt class action law suit.
Attempting to get my PlayStation 4 fixed, but failing, but at least getting my No Man’s Sky disc returned. After 3 years, it didn’t have a single scratch on it! Amazing!
Finding and buying the following books:
Making Nonfiction Comics
Stan Lee’s How To Write Comics
Reaching 31,000 views on my YouTube channel.
Quitting two employers that were toxic and finding three “zen jobs” (jobs that are somewhat peaceful) to replace them.
Getting a Wise card to use overseas.
Recycling dead technology like old computers, mobile phones and even television sets.
That’s all so far, but the rest of the year is looking somewhat brighter.
Thank you for reading.
I hope to be posting more often now that things have settled down somewhat.
