Sometimes you just have to get to those odd jobs that keep getting put off. Knowing that the colder days are approaching I have been wanting to defrost my upright freezer. It gets defrosted each spring and in the fall before the snow flies.
Once everything is put onto a large table, my husband turns on a large fan to melt the ice build up. Then he uses the shop vac to vacuum up the water.
There wasn't much ice on the shelves but I know that if it does not get done in the fall, it will be really thick by springtime.
While my husband is cleaning up all the ice and water I get busy reorganizing the bins. I have one for chicken, beef, pork, and vegetables. This keeps things in order so that I can easily find what I am after.
I had a lot of raspberries frozen from a plentiful harvest this fall. I will be making raspberry syrup and perhaps more jam this next week.
I feel a lot better now that the largest freezer is organized. I may have to organize the chest freezer too. I am going to start saving for another upright since it is so much easier to find things. Otherwise I have to remove the top bins out of the chest every time I need something from the bottom half. I am finding that the older I get, the simpler and easier I want to make things for myself.
I don't have any more room so I guess I better stop putting up food for a while. I have to organize the pantry next and decide if I am lacking in any particular area. Ha, probably not, lol.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
