A severe weather warning was issued earlier this week and boy were they right. We had a torrential downpour with thunder and lightning. The pond filled up nicely with the rain, so I didn't have to use the hose to top it off.
Also, the water buckets under the rain chains filled to the top in minutes. I use that water for all the hanging baskets and my house plants.
I caught these droplets as they were falling from the gutter.
While I was sitting on the porch watching the rain fall, this toad came hoping onto the patio. You can see how hard the rain came down, as it flooded the entire area in no time.
I thought all those swirls on the water looked pretty cool and had to take a photo.
The Gladiolas
I have not grown these flowers in many years and had no idea they got so tall and full of this rust on the leaves. They look pretty pathetic in my opinion. I don't know why they did this.
Some of the bulbs had some flower stalks emerging so I decided to cut them out before the rain ruined them.
The bulbs were supposed to be pure white and one variety, but as you can see, the flowers are certainly different shades of white.
This one had a light pink striping throughout the flowers which was subtle but pretty.
This one was my favorite for sure. It was the whitest one and I liked the lime green in the throat of the flower.
Once the rain finally stopped, I could see a lot of the flowers in the butterfly garden had taken a hard hit. I ended up cutting some of them back the following day.
Here is a photo of the front of the house after my niece painted the shutters while she visited. It really brightened the house up and it looks so fresh now with the wine shutters.
Today, I will be in the kitchen canning broth for the pantry as it is to be nice and cool. Have a great day everyone.
