Hello Hello to all Hivians and indeed anyone reading this.
As you can tell by the title... Today June 5th is World Environment Day.
This year South Korea are hosting it.
Now I don't think we have any South Korean Silver Bloggers do we? That's a shame as it would be cool to see if they know anything about it.
World Environment Day 2025 mobilizes commitment, action to end plastic pollution globally
It was hosted in Jeju, Republic of Korea today the 5th of June 2025
You can read much more about how South Korea are tackling it here
Today also comes exactly two months before countries resume negotiations towards a global treaty to end plastic pollution.
#BeatPlasticPollution
Communities, civil society, businesses, and governments around the world today marked World Environment Day under the theme #BeatPlasticPollution, with official celebrations held in the Republic of Korea’s Jeju Province.
One of my pet peeves is these bloody single use drinks containers that end up in the landfill or microplastics ending in the sea and often ending up inside us!
One of favourite pastimes is beachcombing or collecting mermaids tears or sea glass on the beach...
However that also means picking up plastic that fluffing retards leave behind.
You would think that the younger generations who know it all would know they are killing the creatures on this planet including us with their persistent throw away culture...
We bumped into an old friend at the leisure centre tonight who is called Happy Carol, and yes as you can tell she really is always Happy. She even has a happy voice, it can be a wee bit infuriating if you are nursing a hangover and in she comes chirping like a fluffing bird!
Anyway she had been on the beach picking up plastic and mentioned that today was World Environment Day and this year the focus is on single use plastics and the two hashtags being used on social media are #BeatPlasticPollution and #WorldEnvironmentDay. Did we know about it?
I never knew it was today said I!
We got to chatting and how us Silverites remember the days when the world was not a throw away culture!
I don't know about you but we grew up in a time with far less plastic. And during our life we have picked up valuable skills along the way without even realising it!
For example Mrs T loves to repair things and crochet or sew, I love to cook and by that I mean cook from scratch. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
We use bags for life, we use glass wherever possible.
One of the beauties of going to the supermarket every other day is I pick my fruit and veg, and I get it loose, less plastic...
I use resuable water bottles and the same for coffee. I use recyclable bags for Mrs lunch if not in a lunch box.
It is not much, but if all use less plastic everyone benefits!
Oh and keep your eyes open!
On the way back from the gym we did some more plastic picking up!
Guess what Mrs T saw in the gutter...
Yep a £5 note!
It pays to pick up litter!
Now the art statue of Betty the Basking shark that I wrote about has even more of a timely relevance.
Are you using less plastic? Did you know it was World Environment Day 2025 today?
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!
