Stepping outside my comfort zone… I think I've done it more than once. However, what stands out most is that for many years, over 16, I was used to working in companies, or rather, in one specifically: Elmor Laboratories C.A., a company that was and still is dedicated to manufacturing and distributing medications. I started working as an operator and later as a supervisor. Honestly, I liked the job, and it allowed me to live comfortably. Without being rich, my family and I had everything we needed; we lacked nothing, and we were even able to move from the small town where we lived to the city (although that also took me out of my comfort zone because I prefer a quieter lifestyle).
Salirme de mi zona de confort… creo que lo he hecho en más de una ocasión, sin embargo lo que más puedo destacar es que por muchos años, más de 16, yo estuve acostumbrado a trabajar en compañías, mejor dicho, en una específicamente, Laboratorios Elmor C.A, una empresa que se dedicaba y se dedica actualmente a fabricar y distribuir medicamentos. Yo comencé trabajando como operario y posteriormente como supervisor de un personal, honestamente me gustaba el trabajo y me permitía llevar una vida holgada. Sin ser rico, mi familia y yo teníamos todo lo que necesitábamos, nada nos faltaba e incluso pudimos mudarnos del pueblo en el que vivíamos a la ciudad (aunque eso también me sacó de mi zona de confort porque yo prefiero un estilo de vida más tranquilo)
However, one day I had an altercation with a female colleague who held a higher position than me within the company. There was an uneven floor in the warehouse that I had reported numerous times without success, and one day, due to that same unevenness, I lost my balance on the forklift and ended up knocking over a container of soapy solution that was stored there. This was enough for that woman to get me fired.
Sin embargo un día tuve un altercado con una de mis compañeras de trabajo que tenía un cargo más elevado que el mío dentro de la empresa. En el piso del almacén había un desnivel que yo ya había reportado en numerosas ocasiones sin obtener solución, y un mal día, a causa de ese mismo desnivel, perdí el equilibrio en el montacargas y terminé derribando un contenedor con una solución jabonosa que se almacenaba allí, y con esto fue suficiente para que esa mujer hiciera que me despidieran.
My wife was pregnant, so I had to find a new job quickly, but for some reason all the companies were fully staffed and weren't hiring anyone else, so I ended up using the severance money on two things: finishing paying off the new house, and buying a better car to start working as a taxi driver.
Mi esposa estaba embarazada, así que yo tenia que encontrar un nuevo empleo rápido, pero por alguna razón todas las compañías tenían el personal completo y ya no empleaban a nadie más, así que terminé usando el dinero de la liquidación en dos cosas: terminar de pagar la nueva casa, y comprar un auto mejor para comenzar a trabajar como taxista.
This took me completely out of my comfort zone because I hated and still hate traffic; it caused me a lot of stress. There were even times when I had to work late into the night or travel to remote areas I didn't want to go to, but I had to pay the bills and there was no other option. However, on the other hand, I can't deny that this job also gave me good friendships. I met many people and acquired great skill in getting around the city, since I knew all its nooks and crannies, and I got advice and great lessons.
Esto me sacó totalmente de mi zona de confort porque yo detestaba y aún detesto el trafico, me causó muchísimo estrés, incluso hubo momentos en los cuales tuve que trabajar hasta tarde en la noche o viajar a zonas remotas a donde no quería ir, pero tenía que pagar las cuentas y no había otra opción, sin embargo por otra parte no puedo negar que ese trabajo me dio también buenas amistades, conocí mucha gente y adquirí una gran destreza para moverme en la ciudad, ya que conocí todos sus recovecos, obtuve consejos y grandes enseñanzas.
