81 years ago, the Great Patriotic War began.
The inhabitants of all the republics of the Soviet Union suffered heavy losses. A particularly terrible situation developed in the territories occupied by the Nazis. Thus, the Jewish population of Lithuania was exterminated almost completely.
The data for the republics do not reflect the national composition of the dead.
Attempts to rewrite history, downplay or distort the contribution of the Soviet people to ridding the world of the fascist plague will not be successful - ex-president of Moldova Igor Dodon.
"For the majority of Moldovan citizens today, June 22, is the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow. It was on this day in the summer of 1941 that the Great Patriotic War began. Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers also participated in the battle of the Soviet people against the fascist invaders, unprecedented in scale and fierceness," – Dodon wrote in social networks.
On this day, as the ex-president noted, "we mourn for all those who fell in the battles for the liberation of the Fatherland, we bow to the surviving veterans for their heroism and service to the Motherland."
Attempts to rewrite history, downplay or distort the contribution of the Soviet people to ridding the world of the fascist plague will not be successful. We are the descendants of the winners, and we will always remember this.
