Sports and extracurricular activities at high school were some of my favorite times. Out of all the classes and school hours, I looked forward to these moments the most. I remember the extracurriculars on Mondays very well; that’s when they always taught us cooking and crafts, so those were my chances to take a break and get away from math class.
In the extracurricular activities, they taught us how to make lots of desserts in cooking class, especially cakes. I really liked that part because I love making desserts. In arts and crafts, they taught us how to sew and make small crafts. I remember that the teacher was very sweet and loved teaching; she was also the principal’s daughter.
On the other hand, physical education as a subject just like any other was very important. I liked doing the stretching exercises before class started. I remember that the teacher wasn’t very friendly; she had a strong personality and liked everything to be done exactly as she said. In volleyball class , which were among my favorites, she let us all play together, learning to pass the ball in different styles.
I wasn’t really good at playing volleyball, but it was something I liked a lot I still do. I was bad at serving the ball, but I did it anyway because I loved playing. I remember once there was a volleyball tournament, and I didn’t sign up to participate; but then a girl got sick, and they asked me to fill in. I didn’t want to do it because I wasn’t very good, but if I didn’t join, my team wouldn’t be able to continue, so I agreed, and we ended up in 2nd place.
Another one of my favorite games in high school was Kikimbol, a game similar to baseball but played with your feet and a volleyball. It’s not like I was very good at it, even though it might have seemed that way, but there were people who were much better. The truth is, I don’t think I was very good at sports back then, but I enjoyed them a lot and that’s what mattered.
Sports were the moments when we could share and have fun with our classmates. When we had this class, the part I enjoyed most was playing a game called “21,” which was like a game of clock. I used to play this game at home with my cousins, so playing it in high school made it easier for me and, of course, more fun. Those were very happy moments worth remembering. Without a doubt, to remember is to live, and sports are life.
