Hello, my friends.
Hello Feathered Friends Lovers.
Common Redpoll
Every winter I am surprised again and again looking at the bird feeders outside my window. Last year I was most surprised by jays, a hawk, and 2 woodpeckers. In this winter season, at the moment, I am still surprised by Common Redpoll.
In previous years, I usually saw only one such bird, and then at the beginning and at the end of winter. This season, Common Redpoll is at the feeder every day. This time, sometimes not even one bird arrives, but a whole flock.
What kind of bird is this?
It turns out that this little songbird lives in the northern lands and prefers the tundra. It is likely that our region is the southern border of its habitat. Of course, I am not an ornithologist and I get information from available articles on the Internet. And I thought that this bird belongs to warmer regions.
The photos show a male. In the bird world, males are always more elegant than girls. The simplest example from life is a rooster and a chicken.
These birds are smaller than a sparrow, so they prefer small food. They pick up crumbs under the trees, which are formed from birds that take a whole sunflower seed and then clean it. Apparently, as a result of this process, food gets to these little ones. A whole seed won't fit in its beak.
The bird feeding season is not over yet. It will still last for about 3 months and during this time many amazing discoveries can still happen.
By the way, the hawk arrived today, but it flies so fast that it is not always clear that it was him. Usually, at such moments, birds either fly away or cling to the branches of a tree.
