Rhinoceros Auklet Cerorhinca monocerata is an alcid that breeds on islands nearby where I live in the Puget Sound of Washington. They are named for the "rhinoceros like" protuberance off their bill in breeding season. The large bill is a seasonal shell of their permanant bill underneath that is shed for the non-breeding season.
They, like their close relatives the puffins, catch a large number of small fish in their bill and bring them to their burrow at duck to feed their young.
This photo was taken near Smith Island last summer.
Good birding.
