The bitter cold and snowy weather that started on Christmas Day continues.
Earlier today, a large group of Robins came through our garden. They are quite distinctive in the snow, with their rusty-red chests!
Aren't I beautiful!
These are American Robins, which are quite different from the smaller sparrow sized European Robins. I think our robins are more like a kind of thrush.
Looking for juniper berries
Anyway, food is scarce at the moment so they are turning to whatever they can find on bushes and trees. In this case, they were after the blue juniper berries.
Something to eat
This next one was just sitting out in the sun, all puffed up.
There wasn't much warmth in the sun today, but at least we can pretend!
Fat and happy
This robin had found a few apples left over on the trees from fall. It kept moving around and I unfortunately never got a clear shot of it.
This one was going after some old apples, but I never got a clean shot...
It was very pretty to see them all in the snow. They stayed for about an hour, and then moved on.
One of the last ones to leave offered a nice silhouette against the fading light of day.
Silhouetted against the afternoon sky. It gets dark early, here.
Thanks for stopping by and looking!
(As always, all photos are my own!)
