Of all the birds I can find in my city, Warsaw in Poland, jackdaws are my favorite ones. Those birds are not only enormously intelligent, but also they are pretty funny. Recently, I started to feed them, as at this time of the year there is not too much food for them in nature. Also, I like to observe them, so feeding them is a great opportunity to come closer to them.
The best kind of food you can give them is pumpkin seeds. At first, this beautiful jackdaw ran away when I came closer. Sitting on a tree, the bird noticed that I placed something on a stone. I place the seeds there for a jackdaw to find them easily. When I walked a few meters away, the jackdaw left the tree, coming to the stone. The bird checked what it was and started to eat it.
During this, I took a few steps towards it. The jackdaw noticed me coming closer, but as it knew that I had already placed seeds on the stone, it trusted me, allowing me to come closer. After the consumption, the bird looked at me as if it wanted to say "thank you", or maybe it wanted more seeds. :D
It was a small thing, a small good deed, but it really made me feel better, and the jackdaw had eaten the best dinner possible. I could also feel this connection that was just being born. The bird was conscious of me feeding it. Jackdaws have great memory, and they remember faces, so maybe in the future I will meet the same bird, and it will not run away. Of course I will have some seeds in my pocket, as I always have them to feed birds.
