Welcome to #SMaP Show Me A Photo Contest Round 147. The theme is 'single' birds. This is my entry.
There had been quite a few sightings of waxwings in my area. They visit the UK when their food supply runs out. They come here to look for berries. The ones we found were all after the rowan berries. There were large flocks of them in the trees.
The waxwing gets its name from the red flecks on its wing that resembles dripping wax.
I've not seen them before so I had to go in search of them. The local facebook groups came in handy to keep up to date with the whereabouts of the birds. They were actually in my own village at one point but I couldn't track them down.
I found them to be quite elegant birds, and I was really pleased to see them and have the chance to get a few photos. It was really good to see something different.
As we left, one of them drank out of one of the puddles on the trail.
Thank you to
and the #featheredfriends team.
