Порылась в фотоархиве и нашла вот такую птичку, которую сфотографировала в Париже аж в 2006году. Это было моё первое путешествие с цифровым фотоаппаратом, и можно было не так сильно экономить кадры, как на плёночном. Хотя всё равно не та вольница была, что сейчас. Карточка памяти была не очень ёмкая, мы с друзьями пару раз наведывались в Интернет-салон (помните, что были такие?), чтобы скинуть фотографии с карточки на CD-диски.	I rummaged through the photo archive and found this bird, which I photographed in Paris back in 2006. This was my first trip with a digital camera, and you didn’t have to think at all about the number of frames taken, unlike film cameras. Although it was still not the same freemen as it is now. The memory card was not very capacious; my friends and I visited the Internet shop a couple of times (remember those were there?) to transfer photos from the card to CDs.
Казалось бы, что такого необычного в этом голубе? Дело в том, что по сравнению с привычными нам, он просто огромный, раза в 1,5 крупнее наших. Обычные там тоже встречались, их было большинство. Но, к сожалению, у меня не получилось в одном кадре поймать обоих, чтобы было видно разницу в размерах.	It would seem, what is so unusual about this pigeon? The fact is that, compared to those familiar to us, it is simply huge, 1.5 times larger than ours. There were also ordinary pigeons there, they were the majority. But, unfortunately, I was not able to capture both in one frame so that the difference in size could be seen.

Знающие люди позже рассказали, что крупные птички – это мясная порода. И я вспомнила, что на рыночных прилавках лежали тушки с надписью «пижон» (pigeon). Голубей использовали в пищу ещё в древней Греции и Египте. Для современной России это странно, но и сейчас во многих странах разводят мясные породы голубей (их более 50 таких пород). В США, Франции, Венгрии, Германии, Италии функционируют хозяйства, которые специализируются на разведении этих птиц.	Knowledgeable people later said that large birds are a meat breed. And I remembered that on the market stalls there were carcasses with the inscription “pigeon”. Pigeons were used as food in ancient Greece and Egypt. This is strange for modern Russia, but even now in many countries meat breeds of pigeons are bred (there are more than 50 such breeds). In the USA, France, Hungary, Germany, and Italy there are farms that specialize in breeding these birds.
В ресторанах нам блюд из голубей не попадалось, да я и не уверена, что взяла бы его. Так и не попробовала я во Франции ни лягушек, ни голубей.	We haven’t come across pigeon dishes in restaurants, and I’m not sure I would have taken it. I never tried either frogs or pigeons in France.
Я подумала, что этому голубю повезло, он оказался на воле и деловито вышагивал по парижскому парку.	I thought that this pigeon was lucky; he was free and was busily walking around a Parisian park.
Но позже ещё более знающие люди разрушили теорию про раскормленного голубя, которому грозит сковородка. И опознали в этой птице лесного голубя – вяхиря (лат. Columba palumbus). У него видно характерное белое пятнышко на шее и он крупнее других видов голубей.	But later, even more knowledgeable people destroyed the theory about a fat pigeon whose fate is to end up in a frying pan. And they identified this bird as a wood pigeon (lat. Columba palumbus). It has a distinctive white patch on its neck and is larger than other pigeon species.
