Kingfishers are one of the most colorful birds here in Austria and I really like to watch them fishing for small fish in rivers, creeks and ponds. I already managed to take several pictures of the kingfisher during several of my photography trips. These pictures are from a small creek that enters the danube river and I waited at the conjunction of the creek and the river, since there biodiversity is often better than on other spots. Since there are 2 ecosystems joining each other and animals and birds can benefit from both ecosystems.
Finding the Conjunction of 2 different ecosystems is always a good tip for wildlife photography since the number of encountable species increases at such spots and you can find animals, birds and plants that like both conditions or only like one of the two conditions that mix up there on spots like these. The Kingfisher usually likes the more shallow wwater of the smaller creek for hunting small fish since it is a lot easier there than in the big river were fish can swim a lot deeper in the water.
When you found a spot from the kingfisher and you are well camouflaged or at least far enough away, it is possible that the kingfisher uses one branch several times for hunting. You can prepare your camera and wait for it to appear.
