Visiting the Storks

In late spring this year i visited the wetlands of the March together with Stefan for some wildlife photography and in "Marchegg" a small town at the border to Slowakia you can find a colony of Storks that visit this place every year to raise their "children" there. Of course you can find several other birds there in the wetlands but the Storks are the most impressive and biggest there. Most of the time they spent on the top of the trees that grow there in the wetland, but there are also a few Stork Nests on the Chimneys of some houses. Same as in Burgenland where i also always encounter Storks, it is an honor to have a Stork on the roof of your house and the people there prepare special nesting aids for the birds.

When we visited this place in late spring the storks already had their offspring and where busy collecting food and nesting aid for the children there. It is always very impressive when you stand only some meters underneath these big trees and watch the storks jumping on and off the nest. Sometimes you can even feel a wind from their wings when they fly away. As one of the biggest birds here they have to put a lot of effort in flying with their pretty heavy bodies.
