Because there aren't many trees outside my apartment, a lot of birds like to perch on them most of the time. When I wrote about birds sitting on a bottlebrush tree in one of my previous posts, I talked about them (@kirlos/frequent-guests-on-my-bottlebrush). There are a lot of birds that all land on the same tree visible from my window, few of them shown below.
I realized that I need to feed the birds after one incident that happened to me.
We once heard a strange noise on the glass during a very cold winter. There is no way to know how, where, or who got into our windows. We live on the bottom floor of the building. Mom came back to the room with the bullfinch after going outside to see what had happened.
He was on the palm of his hand, very small and very cold, with his eyes closed. We thought he was dead, but his heart kept going.
We warmed the bullfinch, put a drinking bowl in the box, and took food for the canaries from a neighbor who didn't have any. Next, the bird ate everything we had given it. The bullfinch was back in the wild a week after it was taken.
Since then, we've always left feeders out in the winter to help these crumbs stay alive through the cold.
