Greetings #hives, today I make my entrance into the #featheredfriends community. I hope you enjoy my post and learn about this beautiful bird.
Hello friends, earlier today on my way to work, I came across a bird with deep and beautiful blue colors and couldn't resist taking photos to show you all.
I was also curious to know what kind of bird it was. At first I thought it might be a Crow or a Grackle, birds that don't have a very good reputation in Cuba, since the Crow is considered a bird of bad omen there and the Grackle has a saying, "The Grackle gets blamed for everything" haha, but fortunately for the bird, it was neither of those.
After some research, I found out this bird is called Quiscalus mexicanus or the Great-tailed Grackle. It turns out it's one of the largest grackles, measuring between 33 to 43 cm.
The Great-tailed Grackle, as it's also known, is native to Central and South America and was originally exclusive to these regions. However, due to various environmental changes, they can now be seen in parts of the United States and Canada.
Reading a bit more, I learned their diet is wide and varied. The Grackle feeds on insects, spiders, snails, tadpoles, small fish, lizards, eggs and nestlings of other birds, as well as seeds, grains, berries, fruits and nuts.
Smart little creature - with a diet like that, anyone would stay in shape 😅😁
