It is another holiday today. April and May are generous in holidays and since the weather is so nice, the walks are longer and the birds we see are more, or at least I hope so.
First to see in the park just at the very beginning under the trees a baby magpie was hopping. It was not ready to fly yet by its look. I tried to be at fair distance to make some shots but the angry parents began to shout from the top of the tree and even drop a pine cone close to me like a warning.
Here is the little bugger.
And the angry parents.
I did not want to disturb them anymore and kept on walking further down to the small wood where from the top of a tree a hawk took off, followed by the screeching swallows. What kind of hawk it was I did not know, my photos were not as good to id.
Life is not easy for the raptors and look at its tail, got missing feather.
Crossing the road and we are in the field. It is huge and although there are some shops, a vast area is left unattended and the shrubs and grass grow at will. New fence at the beginning stopped us. Somebody got the plot and I wonder what they will do - another shop or residential building.
At the same time the poppies are spread nicely and the view of red flowers among the green grass is really beautiful.
I like to walk there as it is away from the road and we can hear clear the bird singing, like this Common whitethroat. Moreover there are not many obstacles to get a shot close enough.
And then we saw it, the kestrel. First it was a bit far, but then I was so happy to see it up close. The kestrel was hovering at one place, flapping the wings and looking for prey.
Flying just above my head. Magnificent, isn't it?
This close encounter made my day, I was looking in awe at the bird making circles and coming back and hovering again.
There were two booted eagles flying too high and none of the shots turn to be good. A lot of house martins and barn swallows were flying so fast and so close at the same time. The field was offering plenty of insects for them to catch. It was great to spend two and half hours chasing the birds.
And that's it for now.
Wishing you a great week ahead and happy birding!
