I met this wagtail on a forest path at the edge of the forest. Sometimes wagtails can often be seen in these places. Surprisingly, they are often located strictly in the same place. I even think they fly there every year. These wagtails live in this place permanently. True, they sometimes disappear for a short while, but then reappear in the same place.
Wagtails prefer open areas on the road or where there is little vegetation. They can often be seen in places where sandy soils prevail. They love to rummage in the sand, looking for insects and worms there.
The only bad thing is that they move very quickly. Sometimes they just take off and run very quickly. It is very difficult to catch them when they stop.
You have to be patient or try to disguise yourself so that those wagtails do not see. But this is very difficult. Therefore, it is useful to spend a lot of time to photograph them. In addition, wagtails are very fearful. They don't let anyone get close.
It is sometimes very funny to watch them as they run with each other in a race. Moreover, they jump off the spot very quickly. It's amazing how they manage to see insects or worms on the ground on the run. And they grab them very quickly and immediately eat them.
I always try to approach them slowly. I stop constantly. They look at me and do not immediately run away. So it is possible to take pictures of them on the sly.
