We saw this little Cape Cormorant running around in traffic and so it was "hazard" lights on and I ran around to catch him.
But there is more unsettling news about this story at the end of the post.
In the meantime, let's follow our actions here and hopefully you will see that our efforts were worth it all.
One cannot just stand aside, or sit in a car when an animal, or a bird is in danger.
Definitely not a road for a young Cormorant (Phalacrocorax capensis) to run around in.
The beaches are closed to the public due to the Covid lockdown, but that was not going to stop me.
So, I went and put him right near the ocean and he just sat there.
I thought that he would be delighted and scatter into the ocean, but no, he looked at me as if to say; "What now"?
This was how we left him there and it was a big mistake.
I thought that seeing that there were other birds around, that he would fit in.
But later in the day I read the article linked here and I understood what happened to the little Cormorant.
His mother deserted him, because there is no food in the ocean to feed him.
Had I known that we would have brought him home and gotten him a box of sardines.
But such is life, and we learn as we go!
