I will show you another variety of birds here again as a follow up to the previous post, and hope that you will also enjoy it.
The internet signal is testing my patience, as to upload pictures at these speeds take a few hours. Download=3.49Mbps and Upload=0.07Mbps
But the internet doesn't know me and I can take a full day to upload 🤣
Hope that you will like the birds!
First up is a little Cape White-eye (Zosterops virens) in our young "Spekboom" tree.
The White-eye husband is up north in the "Guava" tree in the morning sun, looking for insects.
Now for a Cape Sparrow family (Passer melanurus) and dad is fluffing out the night.
Mom is having the last of a quick morning nap in the early sun.
As soon, she was feeding the hungry baby and I could hear his hungry squeals here.
But mom knows how to abruptly stop the screams, by simply stuffing his little mouth full of food 🤣
The Red-eyed doves (Streptopelia semitorquata) also arrived.
They are the largest of the collared doves.
I love to get these doves in flight, as they have lovely tapered wing shapes.
Don't believe me, as look at the tapers on the wings here.
Another pair were circling on their way in and some days we have more than 20 here.
This one in the palm is a female Cape Weaver (Ploceus capensis) and she was first scouting to see if it was safe to eat.
Plonk! Finally, she was down and happily having breakfast here.
"Southern Africa covers a land area of approximately 3,5 million square kilometres and has a high bird diversity: more species breed here than in the United States of America and Canada combined.
The region's bird list currently stands at 989 species of which 96 are endemic (occurring only in the region) and 78 are near endemic (having ranges that extend only slightly outside the region). Two bird families are endemic to Southern Africa: The rockjumpers (Chaetopidae) and sugarbirds (promeropidae)" (Sasol Birds of Southern Africa, Ian Sinclair 2020).
So you can see here what I am talking about when I say that we have an abundance of birdlife.
And That's All Friends!
Something to think about here!
