The African king of all the sunbirds species here.
The photos here will show you why this metallic colored bird is so popular.
Sadly I couldn't get him in the sunlight to show you the shine of his green colors. But thankfully there is always a next time.
His sharp single note call always gets me in trouble with Marian, as she is waiting for me, but then I disappear after his call to search for him.
Unfortunately, sometimes, I search for more than an hour until I get him and then I humbly return to wherever Marian finds herself searching for me.
Come and see what today's search delivered.
The most difficult shot is to catch him singing his one single note.
But it's only a matter of timing.
It is a Malachite sunbird (Nectarinia famosa).
A beautiful landscape here, and yes the air is mounty crisp and clear.
Here our guy was preparing to fly, so I followed - as usual.
Again, his call sounded from where he was sitting here on his throne.
A real wonderful bird as he sat looking disdainfully at me :)
Always so nice to be out in nature and to see what I can get. I found a bag full of sunbirds here and also a big surprise.
Not often, and I think it is my third time to get one of these sought after birds and I will tell you in a next post what it is.
This is a female and the wife of a special sunbird that I will show you.
Maybe some of you can tell me what specie the bird in the photo above is, but I doubt it. So lets see what you come up with.
In a separate post, I will show you her husband and he is also a rarity.
So, I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures of the Malachite and that you will agree with me that it is a real beauty.
And That's All Friends.
