When one of the first things you see when you wake up in the morning is this...
You know you'll probably have a few great birdwatching opportunities! I came to this place to relax and get some beach, but also for the wildlife spotting. I was in the middle of Parque natural da Ria Formosa, a natural park in the south of Portugal. Here, marshlands, beautiful beaches, and the typical landscape hosts a ton of wildlife, some you hardly see elsewhere in the country.
This was the view next to the hotel:
And taking advantage of the lonely boats, some of the locals enjoyed the improvised perches, both juveniles...
... as well as adults!
The birwatching opportunities were right outside the window. thow:
the eurasian magpie was a common presence.
Well... REALLY common presence. Basically in every spot I visited... there she was!
Funny thing, in a course to one of the beaches, there were signs with a few of the species that could be observed. It's something that I always enjoy seeing in a natural park, as it helps everyone learn a bit more. And in one of the signs, what else?
And literally, five meters away from that sign... 😁
I've covered this species on a previous post, but can't resist to share this one. It's always great to see large birds; when they're flying in formation, near sunset, it just adds up to the fun!
Flamingos decided to show up to finish the day in beauty. But they weren't the only big birds I've seen here. The very next day, this is what I saw flying:
My first thought were flamingos, but on a closer look...
So long since I've seen Spoonbills! The shape of the beak is unmistakable. In birdwatching, as in life in general... details matter! 😉
I hope even in these mad times, you can have opportunities to appreciate nature's show. Stay safe everyone!
