🦉 The European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca)
📚 Ficedula fi cedulinus (medieval lat.): “A small bird that feeds on figs and turns into a black-headed warbler in winter ”(from: Jobling, 2010)
📚 hypoleuca hypoleucos Greek: hypo below, a little, leukos white, hypoleukos whitish
These birds appear in early spring. According to my observations, at the very end of April they are already in the forests. By this time, the snow in the forests had almost melted and insects appeared.
These birds have a recognizable song, however, a beginner can confuse them with other birds.
An interesting feature of these birds, or rather males, is that they can have a different color. And to be more precise, color gradation. From very dark, almost black, to light brown like in females. And no, it has nothing to do with age.
