🦉 The common chaffinch or simply the chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)
📚fringilla (lat.) - finch; fi nco (Old German), fi nc (Old English)
📚coelebs coelebs (lat.) - single, idle, unmarried
Only a week or even less is left before the arrival of these birds. The weather is already warm, the snow is actively melting, flies have appeared. I think these birds will arrive by the weekend.
The males arrive first. They occupy territories and actively sing songs, thereby letting others know that this territory is already occupied.
Then young males and females arrive. At this early time, these birds can be observed jumping through the snow or thawed earth in search of fallen plant seeds. But mostly the birds sit on the branches and sing, only occasionally coming down to eat.
