🦉 The European goldfinch or simply the goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)
- Carduelis carduus (Latin) thistle
I don’t meet these beautiful colorful birds as often as I would like, despite the fact that they are in the forests. And I meet them exclusively in the spring, during their mating season, and also closer to autumn.
In the spring, they still fly in small flocks, and I often see them on the ground, where they look for old fallen plant seeds that have thawed from the snow.
And in the summer they can be seen in the clearings where thistles grow. The seeds of this plant are simply an amazing delicacy for them. They sit on top of the plant and slowly, literally enjoy their food.
