🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)
- Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
- erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red
A sparrow-sized bird. The adult male is brightly colored, with a distinctive crimson head and chest. The red gradually fades on the flanks. The plumage of females and young males lacks any red tones.
They have a beautiful, clear voice. Their song consists of several loud whistles, which can be summed up with the phrase "nice to meet you!"
This bird's diet is primarily plant-based, consisting of seeds from herbaceous and woody plants, berries, as well as buds, flower buds, and young leaves. They even feed their nestlings seeds, occasionally adding insects.
