🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)

Even now in the forest (if you can get there through the puddles and melting snowdrifts up to your waist), you can see and hear woodpeckers in full mating season. The males are actively drumming on the tree bark.
Incidentally, this is the best time to observe these birds. Because now they're in full view and easily visible, descending from the lower treetops.
