🦉 The common redpoll or mealy redpoll (Acanthis flammea)
- Acanthis in ancient Greek. mythology daughter of Autonous and sister Acanthus; when Acanthis sobbed over the murdered Acanthus, the gods turned her into a bird.
- flammea lat.: flamma flame, fire, fiery color flammeus
These birds always fly back north as soon as spring begins. You won't see them in March. But I saw this bird in early May! It was truly strange. Perhaps it was sick, which is most likely the case, as they live in flocks, and it seemed to have become separated from its flock.
As for survival, I think she had every chance of surviving alone in this forest. There are already insects, and there's plenty of plant food, too.
