🦉 The little stint (Calidris minuta) (or Erolia minuta)
📚 Calidris - kalidris or skalidris (Greek) unknown bird mentioned by Aristotle
📚 Erolia - erolie (French) curlew sandpiper (after Vieillot, 1816)
📚 Minuta - Latin: minutus small, minutellus very small
I found a small group of these sandpipers near the river in mid-September. These guys walked on pebbles and stones in search of the remaining food in the form of aquatic insects.
And they did it very smartly! They practically did not stop, cheerfully fingered with their paws. I understand that at this time there was their migration for the winter, and in this place they stopped to rest (if their constant movement can be called that) and have a bite to eat.
I lay on the cold rocks and took pictures, and they didn't care about me at all, and continued to eat insects.
