🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)
📚 Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
📚 erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red
This bird is also known as the red sparrow. Returning from wintering, they fly far to the east, after which they fly back. And because of this, it turns out that they arrive to us quite late, in mid-May.
Males actively sing, and sometimes they do it defiantly, sitting on a separate branch from which they will be clearly visible to everyone. The males are of a beautiful pink color, and the older the male, the larger and more saturated this rose color is.
Females are quite modest, both in voice and in appearance. The photo below is of a female. And a person who does not understand birds will surely confuse it with an ordinary sparrow.
