Happy Saturday everyone,
Buteo magnirostris consists of 12 sub-species all with slightly differing colours. They are a often seen sight in Central and South America. This one I photographed in Costa Rica is stunningly beautiful. They are mostly seen on their own as they hunt for insects, small mammals and reptiles.
They build compact nests out of leaves, twigs and bark and lay two eggs that are incubated for 37 days.
