Good evening friends. Trust that we are all doing well in our different fields. I am I welcome you all to my blog. This is week 259 of #SMaP on show me a photo contest in feathered friends. And I am super excited to share my experiences.
I went out on Saturday towards a swampy area, and I saw some beautiful water birds gathered around, drinking water peacefully. I thought they were all ducks. One bird in particular caught my attention, the one with a bright green colour on its head. It looked so attractive and unique that I quickly grabbed my phone and took a picture of it.

As I stood there taking pictures and admiring them, I hard a man explaining the birds to another person. When I referred to them as a duck, he politely corrected me and said that, that particular one that has green colour on its head is a goose, Then I became inquisitive. He then went on to explain the difference between ducks and goose and it was very interesting.

He then explained saying that both duck and goose belongs to the same family of water birds, but they are different in many ways. One major difference he sighted was their size. He said that goose are generally bigger and have longer necks than ducks. Ducks are usually smaller with shorter necks.

Another difference that he further mentioned was their mouth (bill). A goose has a broader and flatter bill compare to many ducks. Their bills are strong, while ducks bill are flat, but slightly narrow and used more for scooping food from water. He further said that their legs are also a bit different, goose have stronger and longer legs because they spend time walking on land. While duck on the other side, spend more time swimming which made their legs to be positioned backward and that makes them to swim very fast and walk very slow on land.

The man also told me that he has eaten goose meat many times. According to him, goose meat is not as sweet or tender as chicken meat. Chicken meat, expecially the native ones, are softer and milder in taste, while goose meat is darker, firmer, and has a stronger flavour.
As I left the swampy area, I was so happy that I have learnt something new. That green headed bird I will always remember because through it I was able to learn about goose and ducks.
Thank you for you time.
