Pigeons symbolize peace, love, and other positive qualities. They are significant part in many cultures around the world. Pigeons are cultural icons that convey deep spiritual and humanitarian messages. I have plenty of pigeons at home. Many people overlook the subtle beauty of common pigeons because they are so prevalent in urban areas. While at my village we have variety of them that keeps occupying our terrace. And also taught me some important lessons.
While soaking the sun in morning, I saw some peculiar behaviour from these little birde. As soon as they saw water flowing they assembled and started to soak themselves into it. During the severe winter days, while many human avoid cold water, these pigeons were enjoying in coldness.
This is not strange, this is the regular habits. Pigeons soak themselves in water to bathe and clean their feathers, removing dirt, parasites, and bacteria, which is crucial for maintaining their feather quality and waterproofing. This allowing them to fly effectively.
They are maintianing form of personal hygiene that helps keep their plumage healthy and looking good. After a bath, pigeons will preen their feathers to distribute natural oils and remove any remaining debris.
Male pigeons in the group puff up their feathers and perform elaborate displays to attract mates, which can be seen as a beautiful dance or running after one another. One can identify their gender with this way.
Bathing contributes to healthy skin beneath the feathers. I was wondering if these little birds can leep themselves clean in winter, why not human does it often. These pigeons also bath in hot weather, bathing can help cool a pigeon down as water evaporates from their feathers.
Observing pigeons bathing teaches us that they are very meticulous about keeping their feathers clean. Pigeons exhibit a strong drive to stay clean, frequently engaging in bathing activities. This behavior highlights their strong instinct for hygiene and self-maintenance, even when water sources are limited. This also demonstrates their adaptability to different environments and the importance of feather care for flight efficiency.
