This winter has been very cold and quite a lot of snowfall every week. These Mourning Doves were sitting on the wire all puffed out trying to warm up with the little bit of sun that was fading in and out.
Since we have a birdfeeder in the back yard, they have been coming to feed often. There were seven on the ground at one time which is very unusual to see so many grouped together like that.
Normally, I see one pair throughout the year until they have their offspring in early summer. This Dove was heading toward the pond for a drink after one of the first snowfalls this year. Maybe winter will settle down a bit, and the birds won't look so cold.
