Hello Hello to all Hivians, Hivers and indeed any bird lovers that are reading this.
Some of my favourite posts to write on Hive are the feathered friends posts, especially as the rewards go to buying their food in the park which I did on the last day of the year.
So let's celebrate wee Patrick a new arrival!
The water you see is Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy Scotland a few ninutes walk from me.
I try to get up to feed the pond birds as often as I can. Wednesday was one such day.
I saw them congregating down the bottom of the pond, and found out there was a lone goose in the pack!
The Pink Footed Goose!
In the park, the swans rule the roost, and the any time a goose or pair of them try to take over, the swans get rid of them pretty quick!
The males and females are very hard to tell apart.
The Pink-footed Goose is a medium-sized goose, smaller than a Mute Swan but bigger than a Mallard. It is pinkish grey with a dark head and neck, a pink bill and pink feet and legs. This species does not breed in the UK, but large numbers of birds spend the winter here, arriving from their breeding grounds in Spitsbergen, Iceland and Greenland.
They are quite small and even the male is only 2.9 kilos whilst the female is about 2.7 kilos.
Photo bombed by a wee shite.
I must admit seagulls are a pest and a bloody nuisance. They even attack you now.
You can see the pellets of food being thrown into the pond for Patrik, but a little Artic Tern I think has tried to come and steal them!
Boooo!!
Not Amused lol!
Oh you have more food for me! Interestingly enough, the goose was not that enamoured with the meel worms and was more interested in the duck and swan food pellets.
So yes more pellets were readied for him.
All gone, and we shall be back tomorrow.
The water level was so low, all the birds were starving and gobbled everything up!
This post though, is an entry for this week's Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 251 hosted by the wonderful in the fantastic Feathered Friends community on Hive
And I shall pick this one for the entry
That was a tricky choice to make and a process of elimination.
But I thought it would be a bit of fun to include the photobombed goose!
What do you think? Was that your favourite?
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
