The American Goldfinch is a frequent visitor to our farm. When the bird feeder is filled with thistle seed the activity at the feeder is non-stop. As you can see, all four feeding stations on the feeder are full of these little guys. Once they are perched at the feeder they give the Evil Eye to any other finch that wants them to give up their spot. It sure doesn't look like the Goldfinch swooping in is going to have a place to land.
As is the case with many of the birds that are in our area, the Goldfinch migrates south when the winter approaches, usually ending up in Mexico. The distance that the Goldfinch travels to get to Mexico is almost 2100 miles, simply amazing.
I thought this picture was very cool.
This Goldfinch may not be able to get his toes around this branch but still has no problem balancing itself while checking things out.
Last year one of the plastic perching stations broke off. I replaced the broken one with a screw and it doesn't seem to make a difference to the bird.
One of the favorite snacks of the Goldfinch is Sunflower seeds. loves these flowers as much as the Goldfinch.
I would like this last photo to be my entry for #SMaP 123.
Thank you and good luck to all the folks that enter this week's contest.
