April 1st, better known as April Fools' Day has very little to do with birds in black, EXCEPT
for the fact that when I started this post, featuring the Cormorant, it reminded me of the gorgeous weather, we had while in Florida.
Well, Mother Nature has a way of playing jokes on all of us and for today's joke, she sent some snow our way.
Now let's get back to the contest.
As we lounged in the backyard of the home we had rented in Florida, this magnificent bird, an extraordinary fisherman decided to make a visit.
Not only did he hang out with us for a while, he decided to pose for the camera.
After giving us a glimpse of his extended wings, he spun around, stuck out his chest as if to say, "
"Ok, now get a couple of pictures of me from this angle."
The show had not even started, as he made sure we got some more pics of him from every side.
This guy seemed to be enjoying the photoshoot as much as I was.
I first captured him while he was perched in a tree and never seeing a Cormorant before, I wasn't sure what I was seeing.
As time passed he took to the water where he seemed to be totally comfortable!
His appearance changed dramatically as he swam. With just his head and neck out of the water, he no longer looked like a bird, but rather some sort of snake or eel.
In a flash he was gone, diving below the surface of the water as he searched for his next meal. I was amazed at how long this guy could stay underwater.
After disappearing from sight he would reappear hundreds of yards from where he sank below the surface of the water. What a thrill it was to observe this Bird in Black.
A big shout out to the Feathered Friends Community and for sponsoring the contest!
Good luck to all of the contestants.
