Every year we spot a few bird nests, but this one made me laugh. It was built near one of our bungalows, Bobby's Bunk House. I would imagine that he hung this pair of under ware in the crotch of this tree, wanting it to dry out after a swim in the pond. I guess he forgot them. Well, a pair of Robins decided it would be a good place to build their nest thinking it would provide a little extra comfort.
Needless to say, I wanted to see if there were any little ones nesting in the under ware nest.
As I moved the ladder into position, a pair of robins started to squawk and every time I started to climb the ladder they would dive bomb, flying just a foot over my head. It took me several attempts to climb high enough to get to where I could see inside the nest.
With the Robin's aggressive aerial maneuvers I knew I was in for a treat.
The nest was filled with life
and they were so young it was hard to determine one bird from the next.
As soon as I snapped a few pictures I quickly climbed back down the ladder and backed away.
Mom's only concern now was to check up on her brood and provide them with the comfort only a mother can give. The Dad stayed perched above on a branch ready to swoop down again if I decided to attempt another approach.
I took a seat a good distance from all of the excitement and waited about thirty minutes before this little fellow finally popped his head up.
YOUNG BIRD/FLEDGLING
I would like to have the fourth picture considered for the contest.
