INTRO
Hi Guys, Welcome to my Latest post on Geek Zone Community. I'm really happy to be here to experience all the Technological & Gaming content from Members here.
My First Question before I delve into this post is - How can I become a verified Member here on Geek Zone because I see some members with Tag - Geek Verified?
Now, let's delve into my Content for today, So as you can probably tell by my Title - I'll be walking you through my Ongoing Participation in a Web3 Game Jam, What I hope to Create, and the Process involved in my Building.
GameJam - Web 2.5 Unlocked
The GameJam being hosted by the Game7 DAO Community has some tracks for Exploring Simple web2 Games, Web 2.5, and Full-on Web 3 Games. I decided to Follow the track of Web 2.5 which requires a partial integration of Blockchain Resources in my Game.
I'm more of a Designer than a Developer but I'm quite adept at Sourcing Code Snippets and will figure out the Creation of my Game One way or Another. I'm also working on this project alone!
What does it take
Well, I think that it's always fun to compete in a Game Jam or Hackathon regardless of the Prizes/ Incentives provided to the Winners. These kinds of initiatives are really Inspiring and Motivating to do more in less time, exceeding One's Expectations.
This Game Jam is Running for just Two Weeks, in which we have to Create Our Game as Either an Online Web Game or an Application Package. I'm doing the one easiest for me, and can you guess which of them it is?
This Game Jam requires me to go through -
Ideation (Deciding on my Game Idea)
Concept (More of How my Game should look like)
Scale (The Range of Complexity that should be available at V1)
Web2.5 Integration (Introducing Elements of Web3 Gaming such as NFTs, Crypto, etc).
Now that you have an Idea, Let me share a Snippet of my process with you ⬇
My Process of Building in this GameJam
Okay guys, Let me Share my Entire Process with you guys;
First, I Begin by creating the Game's User Interface and a Simple Prototype using Figma Application. Deciding on the Color codes (About 4 Colors used Interchangeably in Elements), and Screen Components.
This Step Enables me to Understand the Scale I want for this Game and Create the Initial Concepts. For this game, I go through - The loading Screen, Homepage, Settings, and Extras.
I Research Online Game Engines to Use, I'm practically deciding against both Unity and Unreal Engine, the two most popular Engines today. WHY? - I want to avoid as much complexity as possible. So for this GameJam, I'm trying to decide between some Online Game Engine such as GameMaker, GDevelop, PlayCanvas
I also Research Web3 Integration Frameworks including Moralis, Alchemy, and Thirdweb. This process is to allow Authentication Feature AND Minting of NFTs. Here, I need a Framework that Integrates well with Javascript!
Then For Building the Game itself, I will start Uploading the UI Elements in the Correct Structure and Lay out the First Game Interactions like OnLoad Assets, Music Start, Tutorial Walkthrough, Responsive Clicks and Hover, Screen Route Interaction (Music Fade in & Out), etc.
Finally, the Main Game Components are where the real code lies, and Like I mentioned above - I'm not the best at coding. My best go at this will be profiting from some clean code research Online & Inside Game Engine Forums. I'll utilize lots of Snippet tutorials of little parts necessary to the functionality of my Game and Create this One by One. For this Step, I'll be looking at building the following components -
- Claimable NFTs on Level Stages
- Level Victory on Element Matching
- Hint Provision for Coins Spent
- Daily Tasks to Earn more Coins
Summary - On the Spur of the Moment
The Truth is that I'm still figuring out a lot of processes, the above are a few I've mapped out and working on them concurrently. This will actually be my very first time competing in a 2 weeks Game Jam, so I'm happy to figure out a lot of things as I go along.
My greatest concern is completing the Game up to a Well Presented level since as you can see from the User Interface, I'm pushing the limits and creating a Visually appealing game.
Thanks for reading my content today, I'm happy to share more info so feel free to leave me a comment! AND Stay tuned for my Updates on this Activity.
Take Care,
