¡Hola amigos de Geek Zone! En esta ocasión les mostraré un viejo PS2 Slim que me compré hace poco.
Resulta que un día me encontraba navegando por Facebook cuando encontré a alguien vendiendo su vieja PS2 Slim en solo 15$. Realmente me sorprendí mucho por el bajo precio, así que ya que quería recordar los antiguos títulos que solía jugar en mi infancia, no dude en contactarme con el vendedor.
Luego de una charla y unas horas más tarde, el vendedor me trajo la consola, estaba bastante rayada y sucia, parecía no haber tenido mucho cuidado con ella así que decidí limpiarla antes de usarla.
Primeramente me deshice del polvo con un simple trapo de microfibra, tanto por fuera de la carcasa como abriendo la bandeja de discos.
La consola tenía muchos rayones, realmente me gustan las cosas que estén bonitas y es por ello que decidí que pulir sería la mejor opción.
Saqué la Memory Card de su sitio y la aparte para tener mejor alcance en la consola y poder limpiarla más fácil, una vez separadas abrí la tapa del lector de discos y comencé a pulir.
Utilicé algodón común y pulitura One Step Polish, que es la misma que se utiliza para vehículos.
Desde este angulo se puede mirar más de cerca los rayones que la consola tenía, así que coloque un poco de pulitura en el algodón y comencé a hacer movimientos circulares con fuerza en la carcasa brillante de la consola buscando quitar la mayoría de rayones posibles.
Luego de una buena limpieza por un buen rato, pude hacer que la consola se viera mucho más linda de lo que se veía realmente al haberla recibido, no pude quitar todos los rayones ya que habían algunos bastante profundos.
Esta versión de la PS2 tiene decoración en la mitad de la carcasa de la consola brillosa y tiende a rayarse mucho, así que si tienen una, cuidenla mucho si no quieren que se vea fea luego.
Así quedo la consola luego de limpiar y restaurarla lo mejor que pude, así quedo:
En la parte mate de la consola fue difícil poder restaurar, así que limpié lo mejor que pude y así quedo, ahora era momento de conectarla y comenzar a jugar.
Hoy en día, es difícil poder conseguir juegos en disco para la PS2, así que aproveché que la consola esta chipeada y me propuse a realizar la instalación y preparación del ambiente para poder jugar juegos con USB y Ethernet.
Primero encendí la consola y entré a los datos de la memory card, allí pude notar que tenía datos de ULauncherELF en el, por lo cual reinicie la consla y mantuve presionado los botones R1 + X y con ello, entré al explorador de archivos de la consola.
En la memory card, tenía un ejecutable .elf de Open PS2 Launcher (OPL) por lo cual, descargué OPL Server en mi PC e hice la configuración necesaria para poder jugar tanto por USB como Ethernet.
Descargué bastantes juegos, los cuales puse en la carpeta PS2 de la raíz de mi disco duro, coloqué la configuración IP en la configuración del OPL de la consola y en mi PC, coloqué un cable Ethernet en el extremo de mi consola y el otro extremo en la PC.
Guardé los juegos en la carpeta, descargué un tema para el OPL y finalmente, pude entrar a la lista de juegos que tenía esperando.
Ahora voy a responder una pregunta que muchos se podrán hacer, ¿Vale la pena comprar una PS2 en pleno 2022?
La respuesta para mi es clara, SI.
Es una consola que a pesar de los años que tiene desde su lanzamiento por allá en el 2000, sigue dando mucho y sigue siendo a día de hoy, la consola con el catalogo más grande en la historia de las consolas de videojuegos.
Con las posibilidades que tenemos hoy en día para jugar a juegos a través de USB, Disco Duro, Ethernet, etc, vale mucho la pena hacer una inversión, también que suele ser una consola muy barata de conseguir, así que para mi opinión, vale totalmente la pena.
Y aprovechando esta ocasión les recomendaré varios de mis títulos favoritos de esta consola: Guitar Hero I, Tony Hawk Undregound 2, Crash Twinsanity, The Sims 2: Pets, The Sims Castaway, Gran Turismo 4, Sonic Unleashed, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks y muchos más.

It turns out that one day I was browsing Facebook when I found someone selling their old PS2 Slim for just $15. I was really surprised by the low price, so since I wanted to remember the old titles I used to play in my childhood.
After a chat and a few hours later, the seller brought me the console, it was quite scratched and dirty, it seemed not to have been very careful with it so I've decided to clean it before use it.
First I got rid of the powder with a simple microfiber cloth, both outside the case and opening the disc tray.
The console had a lot of scratches, I really like things that are beautiful and that's why I decided that polishing would be the best option.
I took the Memory Card out of place and set it aside to have better reach on the console and be able to clean it easier, once separated I opened the lid of the disc reader and began to polish.
I used ordinary cotton and One Step Polish, which is the same as that used for vehicles.
From this angle you can get a closer look at the scratches that the console had, so I put some polish on the cotton and began to make circular movements with force on the shiny shell of the console trying to remove as many scratches as possible.
After a good cleaning for a long time, I was able to make the console look much nicer than it actually did when I received it, I couldn't remove all the scratches as there were some quite deep ones.
This version of the PS2 has decoration on the middle of the console case that is shiny and tends to scratch a lot, so if you have one, take good care of it if you don't want it to look ugly later.

In the matte part of the console it was difficult to restore, so I cleaned the best I could and that's it, now it was time to connect it and start playing.
Nowadays, it is difficult to get games on disk for the PS2, so I took advantage of the fact that the console is chipped and I decided to install and prepare the environment to be able to play games with USB and Ethernet.
First I turned on the console and entered the memory card data, there I noticed that it had ULauncherELF data in it, so I restarted the console and kept the R1 + X buttons pressed and with that, I entered the file explorer of the console.
On the memory card, I had an Open PS2 Launcher (OPL) .elf executable, so I downloaded OPL Server on my PC and did the necessary configuration to be able to play both via USB and Ethernet.
I downloaded quite a few games, which I put in the PS2 folder at the root of my hard drive, put the IP settings in the OPL settings of the console and on my PC, put an Ethernet cable into the end of my console and the other end in the PC.
I saved the games to the folder, downloaded a theme for the OPL, and was finally able to get to the list of games I had waiting for.
Now I am going to answer a question that many may ask, is it worth buying a PS2 in the middle of 2022?
The answer for me is clear, YES.
It is a console that despite the years since its launch back in 2000, continues to give a lot and is still today, the console with the largest catalog in the history of video game consoles.
With the possibilities that we have today to play games through USB, Hard Disk, Ethernet, etc, it is very worth making an investment, also that it is usually a very cheap console to get, so in my opinion, it is worth totally worth it.
