Hello Hive Friends!
Warm greetings to all my Hive family, especially my fellow Filipino bloggers. I hope you’re all doing well today.
Earlier this afternoon, my generous neighbor handed me a slice of cake. It was bought by her son as their dessert, but she kindly shared it with me, just as she often does, even without any occasion. I enjoyed it after lunch, and the leftover is now safely tucked in the refrigerator, waiting to be tomorrow’s dessert.
It may sound simple, but that slice of cake meant more than just sweetness on my plate. Today has been one of those stressful days when problems seem to pile up endlessly. My financial situation is tight, and I’ve been asked by siblings, my mother, cousins, and even friends if I could lend them money, all through Messenger chat, since they live far from me. The timing was frustrating because I had just paid some monthly loans and bills, and more are due very soon.
Some of those who asked even have unpaid debts to me, which adds to my stress. On top of that, I’m worried about my mother’s maintenance medicines running out tomorrow. I gave her money last week for ten days’ worth, but with bills and loans weighing me down, I’m unsure how to stretch my resources until my next salary.
Despite all these worries, that simple act of kindness from my neighbor reminded me that life still has small joys worth savoring. For a moment, I forgot my burdens and just appreciated the sweetness of the cake, and the sweetness of having thoughtful people around me.
Living alone with my fur baby, Cardo the Chow Chow, I sometimes feel the weight of loneliness. But moments like this, a shared slice of cake, a wagging tail beside me, remind me that even in hard times, kindness and companionship can lighten the load.
Thank you, dear Hive friends, for reading my little story today. Writing here always feels like sharing life with family, and I’m grateful for this space. May we all find our own “slice of cake” moments, small joys that help us carry on even when life feels heavy.
With love and gratitude,
Leigh 🌸
