I haven’t posted anything in about a year so here goes…
There’s a triathlon that I’m doing in September so I took myself on a bit of a DIY training camp.
Day 1 - Salt Cellar Fell Race in the Peak District
This was about 7 miles with 1500ft of elevation. If you haven’t been to the Peak District it is this amazing place of big hills, reservoirs, forests and moors. A trail runners dream.
Day 2 - Rest. Went for a walk and to see Oppenheimer at the cinema - awesome film.
Day 3 - Off to the Lake District! Did a 12 mile route named the Espresso Round that took in peaks such as Catbells and Causey Pike. Over 3300ft of climbing and some superb downhill stretches.
Day 4 - Bike time! 38 miles including Kirkstone Pass aka “the struggle” which is a 2mile long hill. Cars even struggle to get up it! You can smell the clutches burning. 3150ft elevation.
I really neglect my bike training but this was thoroughly enjoyable. And there was a beer at the end.
Day 5 - Heavy legs time but we’re not done yet. Today was a hike up and run down of the beautiful Skiddaw. It took over 90mins to get up and less than 30 to get back down. This was followed up by a brief swim in Derwent Water and lots of cake :)
My iPhone camera does not do the scenery in the Lake District justice. It feels like you’re in Middle Earth when you’re there and it’s hard to believe you’re not watching some super graphic effect film.
Maybe unsurprisingly after all of that activity and elevation (half of Everest my friend reckoned) I have been a bit tired this week and needed a couple of days off!
Anyway, will try and post more activity adventures going forward.
Ciao 👋
