I'll vote for the proposal. And I'd like you to read the results of my many hours of conversations with the AI—I think this is a fair conclusion:
Hive's problem today isn't a lack of technology.
The problem is the lack of a strong reason why the average person should join now.
Bitcoin has a narrative:
digital gold.
Ethereum:
global smart contract infrastructure.
Solana:
fast retail chain for memes, trading, and mass applications.
But Hive's narrative is blurred.
Internal people understand the value:
ownership,
social,
community,
no fees,
Web3 identity,
but an outsider can't grasp it in 10 seconds.
Here's what I think would be stronger than a rebrand:
- Focus on one killer use case
Hive is trying to be:
a blog platform,
a social network,
DeFi,
gaming,
a community chain,
a payment system,
a Web3 identity layer.
But mass growth usually comes from one very clear thing.
For example:
"YouTube on blockchain"
"Web3 Reddit"
"Creator ownership network"
"Uncensorable publishing"
"AI-proof social platform"
A very simple message is needed.
- Make onboarding almost invisible
This is where Hive has a huge problem.
For a beginner:
keys,
posting key,
active key,
RC,
HBD,
HP,
power up,
witnesses…
…it's overwhelming.
But a modern user is used to:
Google login,
Apple login,
one-click UX.
Hive needs onboarding at the following level:
"click and you're in."
- Focus on the creator economy
This is where Hive has a truly huge advantage over many blockchains.
Because:
the content is stored,
the account is yours,
the audience is yours,
monetization is built-in.
This is a very powerful idea in an era of:
AI content,
censorship,
platform risk.
But Hive is selling this to the world very poorly.
- Stop selling Hive as "blockchain"
This may sound strange, but ordinary people almost don't care about the word "blockchain" anymore.
We need to sell:
freedom,
ownership,
income,
community,
persistence,
independence.
People aren't buying technology.
They're buying a solution to their problem.
- We need one truly great consumer app.
This is perhaps the most important thing.
Not another frontend.
Not another wallet.
But an app that:
you want to open every day,
is understandable to a beginner,
looks modern,
doesn't require knowledge of crypto.
And if such an app takes off,
then people will start searching for Hive on Google.
- Embrace the AI trend instead of fighting it
This is where Hive could make a truly unexpected move.
For example:
proof-of-human systems,
verified creators,
ownership of original content,
AI watermarking,
creator reputation layer.
In a world of AI spam, this could be very valuable.
What about rebranding?
I'm not completely against it.
But I would only view it as:
a booster of existing growth.
And not as a source of growth in itself.
Because if:
UX remains complex,
apps remain niche,
outside narrative doesn't emerge,
then a new name will face the same problems in a year.
And honestly?
I think Hive has much more potential than the market currently realizes.
But this potential is still very poorly packaged for the outside world.
