On Sunday I had a wonderful family meeting and reunion that I enjoyed like never before, and I say "meeting" and "reunion" because I almost always see my family (my sisters and nephews) but on Sunday I had the opportunity to meet again with one of my nieces who has lived for some years in Barcelona, Spain, and is now visiting her own country, reuniting with all her loved ones.
El domingo tuve un precioso encuentro y reencuentro familiar que disfruté como nunca, y digo “encuentro” y “reencuentro” porque yo casi siempre veo a mi familia (mis hermanas y sobrinos) pero es que el domingo fue que tuve la oportunidad de reencontrarme con una de mis sobrinas que vive desde hace unos años en Barcelona, España, y ahora está de visita en su propio país, reencontrándose con todos sus seres queridos.
She has always been a practicing Catholic, having studied at Don Bosco School. So, as a way of thanking God for being back in her country and among her family, she organized a thanksgiving mass at the sanctuary of Don Bosco School, where she and my youngest daughter also studied. Almost all the family members attended the gathering, and it was also the first time we saw a mass celebrated by William, or rather, Father William, a great friend of my niece and therefore of the whole family.
Ella siempre ha sido católica practicante ya que estudió en el colegio Don Bosco, así que como una forma de agradecer a Dios por estar nuevamente en su país y entre los suyos, ella organizó una misa de acción de gracias en el santuario del mismo colegio Don Bosco donde ella estudió y mi hija menor también. Casi todos los miembros de la famlia aistimos a la reunion, pero además fue la priera vez que vimos una misa oficiada por William, o bueno, más bien el padre William un gran amigo de mi sobrina y por ende de toda la familia.
After Mass, the school library was lent to us so the whole family could spend time together peacefully, and that's exactly what we did: we ate, drank, and chatted at length, reminiscing about old times. My niece shared her experiences not only as an immigrant in Spain but also as a doctor and through her service to the church and the nursing home where she volunteers. We also filled her in on all the family news. We truly had a wonderful time, laughing and enjoying ourselves like we hadn't in a long time.
Luego de la misa nos prestaron la biblioteca del colegio para que pudiesemos convivir tranquilamente toda la familia y así lo hicimos: comimos, bebimos y nos dedicamos a conversar largo y tendido, recordando anecdotas y mi sobrina compartiendo sus experiencias no solo como migrante en España sino como médico y también con sus servicios a la iglesia y al ancianato en el que trabaja como voluntaria, nosotros también la pusimos al día con todos los pormenores de la familia. Realmente pasamos un momento agradable en el cual nos reímos y disfrutamos como no lo habíamos hecho en mucho tiempo.
Then it was time to take family photos, first with my sisters (one was away on a trip at the time) and also with my nephews and nieces. All of this brought back many memories of the times we were there for a "Family Sunday" (an activity held to celebrate the anniversary week of Saint John Bosco). I also remember the school band activities I attended to support my daughter.
Luego llegó el momento de hacer las fotos familiares, en primer lugar con mis hermanas (faltaba una que estaba de viaje en ese momento) y también con los sobrinos. Todo esto me trajo muchos recuerdos de las veces que estuvimos allí en un “Domingo Familiar” (una actividad que se hacía a propósito de la semana de aniversario de San Juan Bosco), también recuerdo las actividades de la banda escolar a la que yo asistía para apoyar a mi hija.
I was also surprised to find different places or areas, like a chapel that wasn't there before, but we kept taking pictures to immortalize the beautiful moment, and we were dying of laughter at the faces my brother was making, since he is the funny one in the family.
También me sorprendió encontrar lugares o zonas diferentes, como una capilla que antes no estaba allí, pero nosotros seguíamos tomando fotos para inmortalizar el hermoso momento, y nos moríamos de risa con las caras que hacía mi hermano, ya que él es el gracioso de la familia.
I am truly grateful to God for this wonderful opportunity to be together, which offers us moments of happiness that somehow alleviate and compensate for the difficult times we have faced on several occasions. This shows us that life is a constant flow of changes, and that we must therefore make the most of it, learn from our mistakes, grow through adversity, and enjoy the happy moments because life is the here and now. Thank you all for letting me share this overwhelming happiness with you. I send you virtual kisses and hugs.
De verdad que estoy muy agradecida con Dios por esta maravillosa oportunidad de estar juntos que nos ofrece momentos de felicidad que sirven de alivio y compensación de alguna manera por los momentos duros que tuvimos que enfrentar en varias ocasiones, lo cual nos demuestra que la vida es un flujo constante de cambios y que por eso hay que aprovecharla al máximo, aprender de los errores, crecer en la adversidad y disfrutar los momentos felices porque la vida es el aquí y el ahora. Gracias también a ustedes por dejarme compartir esta felicidad que me embarga, les envío besos y abrazos virtuales.
